This is a brief example of how to install and configure a relatively simple module, the Google Analytics Module. This module will allow you to track visitors to your website in a very fine grained manner via Google Analytics.
Enabling a Module
- Read the module documentation on drupal.org
- Request a google analytics tracking code from ITS.
- Put in a service-now ticket assigned to ITS_TA_WEB_Services
- Include your site URL and site name
- Login as the site admin to your website (https://yoursite.ucsf.edu/user)
- Click on the "Modules" text in the admin menu
- Type Google Analytics into the the filter list box
- Check the Google Analytics box in the "enabled" column
- Click the "Save configuration" button near the bottom left of the page
- The module is now enabled
Configuring a Module
- Login as the site admin to your website (https://yoursite.ucsf.edu/user)
- Click on the "Modules" text in the admin menu
- Type Google Analytics into the the filter list box
- Click the configure link next to the Google Analytics module
- Add you Google Analytics tracking code to the Web Property ID field (example UA-2208693-31).
- Select the Roles tab.
- Click the check boxes for "Anonymous User" and "Authenticated User"
- Click save configuration.
- Now your site will track anonymous visitors and people who have a login but are not editors or admins.
